Update: Microsoft has acknowledged the Xbox One disc drive issues and is offering replacement consoles for those affected.

Some new Xbox One owners have been having issues with the disc drive being excessively noisy or being incapable of reading disc altogether.

Microsoft has now issued a statement saying it is aware of the issues and is working with customers to resolve them as quickly as possible.

"The issue is affecting a very small number of Xbox One customers", said Microsoft in a statement. "We're working directly with those affected to get a replacement console to them as soon as possible through our advance exchange programme."

Original story:
The Xbox One release date has come to pass and the console’s launch has been marred slightly as a number of early adopters report disc drive failure issues.

An issue that is said to be affecting a select number of consoles, the Xbox One problems have seen gamers report of disc drive failures, with neither disc-based games or Blu-ray films able to be played.

Essentially rendering much of the console’s core features useless, the Xbox One disc-drive failures have prevented a number of gamers playing games on their next-gen console which went on sale on Friday, November 22.

Quick to address the reports, Microsoft has responded to disappointed gamers stating that it is looking into the reported problems.

“We know that with a hardware launch of this magnitude customers will have questions and we have many avenues for customers to get the answers they need and get back in the game as soon as possible,” an official Microsoft spokesperson has stated.

They added: “Rest assured we plan to take care of our customers. Any customer who believes they are experiencing an issue with their Xbox One should reach out to us.”

Going head-to-head with the PS4 in the battle of the next-gen consoles, the Xbox One is not alone in its issues.

A number of early PS4 owners last week reported bricking issues with their new consoles while others said their PS3 follow-on had been shipped with a faulty HDMI port which prevented them from attaching the console to a TV.
