Game of Thrones S7 delayed as HBO literally waits for winter to come

The filming, and thus airing, of Game of Thrones Season 7 will be delayed, the showrunners have revealed.

Speaking on the UFC Unfiltered podcast (via Digital Spy) David Benioff and Dan Weiss admitted they need to wait for the weather to get a little worse before committing the penultimate season to film.

Given most of the show’s iconic locations are created and shot in Europe, the production team is going to have to wait until winter actually arrives.

“We don’t have an air date yet, but this year will likely be a bit later,” the pair revealed.

We’re starting a bit later because at the end of this season, ‘Winter is here’ – and that means that sunny weather doesn’t really serve our purposes any more.

“So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim grey weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot.”

It’s still early days for HBO to be revealing premiere dates for the next season, given the current 10 episodes just completed their run.

However, it appears Westeros enthusiasts will be waiting beyond the usual April release date for the most beloved show on television.

Given the climax of Season 6 and the current positioning of the chess pieces, something tells us it’ll be worth the wait.
