Game of Moans: This terrible Thrones plotline has spawned a $20 million ‘fixing’ Kickstarter
A group of dissatisfied Game of Thrones fans want to “fix” the TV show’s “disappointing” Dornish plotline.
The underwhelmed Thrones-bemoaners have created Fixing Dorne Productions, and hope to fund their $20 million project on Kickstarter. Over $30,000 has been raised by 88 backers so far, but the project only has a funding deadline of June 4, 2016 – that’s just ten days away.
The mission statement is simple:
“We want twenty million dollars to write, produce, and distribute a ‘Dorne Replacement’ for HBO’s Game of Thrones.”
FDP basically wants to reshoot new Dorne scenes for the TV series that fans can watch instead of the actual, HBO-produced Dorne scenes. They’re intended as “plug-and-play” inserts to soothe fans unhappy with HBO’s interpretation of the Dornish story detailed in the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, penned by George R. R. Martin.
Dorne, the most hated storyline ever?
“This is a Kickstarter for all the fans of Game of Thrones who feel a certain pang of disappointment every time the show returns to its Dornish plotline,” FDP explains. “Our plan is to create a ‘patch’ for Game of Thrones season five’s Dorne storyline with our own fairly interesting and competently executed alternative plot.”
To justify the huge target, FDP explains that one episode of Game of Thrones costs around $6-10 million, and that while the total running time of new content will be “less than two episodes’ worth”, the team doesn’t have access to HBO’s resources, incurring added costs.
The team is comprised of a five people: actor/producer David Panfilo, producer/director Sean Ireland, ‘ideas guy’ (what?) Vincent Pezzutti, artist Teela Wyman, and writer Jonathan Ying. If the project reaches $23 million in funding, the team also hopes to get Thrones actors Alexander Siddig (Doran Martell), Jerome Flynn (Bronn), and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) on board.

“To be clear, we are far from being book purists. The costume and set designers for the show did a fantastic job with the Dornish culture, and many of our qualms come from strange writing choices and what seemed like a misallocation of creative resources,” the team explains.
The Kickstarter creators say they hope to move onto “season six and beyond” once the season five patch is delivered.
