Galaxy Nexus And Motorola Razr Coming To UK This Month [Update]

O2 has used its Google page to confirm that two highly anticipated new smartphones will be coming to the UK this month.

First up is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus which will be the world’s first Android 4.0 handset and will be arriving in UK stores this week. Eager shoppers will be able to pick up one of the 4.65in smartphones from this Thursday, 17 November.

There is no word yet on whether the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be available elsewhere in the world on Thursday, and 02 has yet to unveil pricing and tariffs for the new phone. As well as O2, networks Three and Vodafone have also confirmed they will be carrying the handset.

Phones4U also said it would be offering the phone when it launched and indicated the Galaxy Nexus would be available ‘free’ on a £46-a-month contract or for £30 up front on a £41-a-month deal.

The next phone announced on the O2 Google page was the Motorola Razr, which the carrier confirmed would also be available “later this month.” No word yet on pricing for this model either, though online retailer Clove did give a price of £454.80 including VAT when the phone was launched last month, promising a deliverly date of 1 November.

The Razr, which is already on sale in the US under the moniker Droid Razr, claims to be the world’s thinnest phone and at just 7.1mm thick, who are we to say otherwise.

The Razr still packs in a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB or RAM, 16GB of on-board storage, a 4.3in super AMOLED advanced QHD display (960x540), an eight megapixel camera on the rear - capable of capturing 1080p video - a front facing camera and a huge 1800mAh battery.

We’ll be looking to get our hands on both these devices very soon but for the moment, let us know in the comments, which of these new Android devices (if either) tickles your fancy.

Update: Three has now been in touch to day that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is available for pre-order today however a quick check of Three's online store and we can see no option to pre-order the Galaxy Nexus yet. We've been in touch with Three to see what the situation is and will let you know as soon as we do.

I prefer the look of the Razr, and it may be slightly cheaper, but I have two minor concerns which may push me to the Nexus.

1) I gather that the Razr doesn't have an NFC chip. Not that relevant right now, but over the course of a 18 or 24 month phone contract, I think a lack of NFC will frustrate my early adopter tendencies!
2) No removable battery in the Razr. I'm not one of those people that will carry a spare battery and I'm happy to accept that smart phone battery life is basically one day's usage. What bothers me is that my current phone has on a number of occasions, crashed to such an extent that the only way of fixing it was to reboot having removed and replaced the battery. Given that the Razr has the same OS as my current phone, not being able to do that would bother me!

If timely updates are a concern then I'd personally steer clear of Motorola. I'm an Atrix owner still waiting for Gingerbread (and bitterly regretting getting rid of my Nexus One..). I may well be selling the Atrix soon if Motorola's promised update date of mid November doesn't materialise, and will be going for the Nexus in that situation..

Personally I'd caution against the Razr if you value receiving timely software updates. I am of course biased because I'm a UK Atrix owner still waiting for a Gingerbread update originally promised for 6 months ago..

And they haven't updated the Xoom in the UK either. I won't be getting the Razr until it has been updated to ICS, have zero trust for Motorola.
