Fujifilm has unveiled the Fujifilm X30 as the successor to last year’s Fujifilm X20.
As you might expect, the Fujifilm X30 bears a number of similarities to its well-built premium compact camera predecessor.
It’s got the same 12-megapixel 2/3-inch X-TransTM CMOS II image sensor and the same EXR Processor II image processing engine. It also has the same 28-112mm equivalent F2.0-2.8 4x zoom lens. However, it sports several new features elsewhere.
Probably the biggest change from the X20 is the presence of an electronic view finder rather than an optical solution. Fujifilm calls it “the largest, fastest and highest resolving viewfinder in its class,” with 2.36 million dots and 0.62x magnification.
The rear LCD display has also been improved to a 3-inch 920,000-dot example – that’s the same size as the X20’s, but double the sharpness.
You also get Wi-Fi for the wireless transfer of images to your smartphone.
More subtly, the Sony X30 has gained an extra control ring around the lens for manual settings tweaks without having to take the camera away from your eye. You can assign aperture, shutter speed, ISO sensitivity, white balance and the like to it.
Another noteworthy new feature is the Fujifilm X30’s increased battery life. It now lasts almost twice as long as previous models, or around 470 shots to give a more precise figure.
The Fujifilm X30 goes on sale in September for around £479.
