Fujifilm X100T announced with unique electronic rangefinder
Fujufilm has announced the Fujifilm X100T, a premium compact camera with “the world’s first electronic rangefinder.”
The original Fujifilm X100 was released some three and a half years ago, and proved to be one of the manufacturers most exciting and accomplished cameras for some time. It was superseded last year by the Fujifilm X100S
Now the Fujifilm X100T has been announced as the next step. Like its predecessors, the X100T has a hybrid viewfinder, but this one’s a little different.
It employs what Fuji is calling an electronic rangefinder, which enlarges and overlays the focus area in the corner of the viewfinder. This should give manual focusing a huge boost in effectiveness.
Otherwise, the X100T looks to be a modest advance on previous models. Like the X100S, there’s a 16.3-megapixel X-Trans CMOS II APS-C image sensor and an EXR Processor II image processor. You also get the same 23mm f/2 fixed lens as before.
Fuji has made some minor tweaks to the camera’s handling, with previous iterations having received some criticism on this front in the past. You can now set the aperture in 1/3 steps using the aperture ring rather than the command lever.
Meanwhile the command level itself has been replaced by a command dial which, added to a new four-way controller, Fujifilm hopes should improve handling.
Elsewhere there’s a sharper 3-inch 1.04-million-dot display, and the X100T has also gained Wi-Fi.
The Fujifilm X100T will be available in the UK in two colours, black and silver, from November. It’ll cost £999.99.
