Microsoft is pulling the free, ad-supported version of Xbox Music later this year.
Although the subscription version will still be available, Microsoft is getting rid of the ad-based subscription version.
From December 1, Microsoft is pulling the ad-supported version of its music streaming service, leaving only the £8.99 a month subscription option.
Xbox Music was originally launched in 2012 alongside Windows 8. Both the subsciption and ad-supported options were made available as part of the new operating system.
The service was then made available through Xbox One and Windows Phone devices.
“We are focusing Xbox Music to deliver the ultimate music purchase and subscription service for our customers,” said Microsoft. “All of the music you have purchased through Xbox Music will still be available on your Windows PC, tablet and phone.”
“You may continue to view any playlists or collections your created using the free streaming feature, but you can’t listen to the music in those playlists or collections unless you purchase the music or an Xbox Music Pass. If you have an Xbox Music Pass, you will still have access to all the music in your playlists, radio stations, collections and catalogue.”
