Free Shovel Knight expansion is coming next week

Shovel Knight expansion, Plague of Shadows, is coming next week and it’s absolutely free.

The first DLC expansion for Shovel Knight is only days away from release, developer Yacht Club Games has announced.

Plague of Shadows will be available from September 17 for all platforms as a free downloadable update.

The expansion will introduce a brand new Challenge Mode and a new playable character, Plague Knight.

The way you play the game will be dramatically changed when you take control of Plague Knight, a character who can use explosions and bomb jumps to navigate the environment.

Plague of Shadows will also introduce new areas, enemies, paths and bosses to the game. The original story has been modified to fit Plague Knight’s character, who sounds pretty evil to us.

Plague Knight is planned as one of many boss characters to be released as playable knights for the game, with more planned for the future.

The idea to play as the original game’s boss characters came from Shovel Knight’s kickstarter stretch goals.

Shovel Knight had a hugely successful crowdfunding campaign back in 2013, raising $311,502, smashing through its initial $75,000 target.

To access Plague of Shadows you will need to have already completed the base game as Shovel Knight.

If you happen to have switched platforms or just wish to play as Plague Knight straight away, Yacht Club Games has said it will happily be giving out codes.

Earlier this month Yacht Club Games revealed the Shovel Knight Amiibo.

Shovel Knight will be the first third-party character in Nintendo’s line of collectible figurines.

The Amiibo will not only be compatible with Shovel Knight, but future titles currently in development at Yacht Club.

Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows will be available for download on Wii U, 3DS, PS3 PS4, PS Vita,Xbox One and PC from September 17.
