Following the recent Apple iTunes Store rollout in Russia earlier this week, users in the world's largest country have reported they are presented with free pornographic pictures when searching for films to rent.

With Apple introducing nits newly revised iTunes Store service to 55 new countries on Tuesday, December 4, users in Russia have seen innocent film searches bring back free porn pictures with movies linking out to .xxx websites.

Whilst Apple, a company renowned for its strict, no nonsense rules on adult content, has as yet failed to comment on the glitch, industry experts have suggesting the issue could be caused by placeholder text, used in the software's design, inadvertently linking users out to adult based .xxx content.

Affecting films that do not have official cover images attached to them, the Russian iTunes Store issues have been described as a 'serious blunder' by industry professionals as users of all ages are accidentally subjected to the pornographic content.

"If someone actually clicks on such a movie and buys it, they won't get a porn movie - they will get what was supposed to be there, a real film, but the image was just wrong," Top F Secure IT researcher Mikko Hypponen told the BBC.

"It's like when you go to a real-world video rentals store and all the DVDs are there but the covers for some of them are wrong," he added. "It's accidental - as I understand the situation, as they were adding content, they were a bit rushed and didn't have images for every single movie cover.

"For those images that they didn't have yet, they had to enter a web address - a URL - of where the image was supposed to come from, but there was no URL to put in yet - so they just put xxx.xxx thinking that they will put in a real address later."

An easy issue to address, Apple is expected to find all movies linking to free porn photos and either insert official cover images or link the errant snaps to the iTunes Store homepage as opposed to a smut peddling website.

Is this just another example of Apple losing its Jobsian levels of perfection and attention to detail or simply an unfortunate mistakes that resulted in free porn photos being thrust upon Russian users?
