Free FIFA 18 update is here to get you pumped for the World Cup

With the Premier League and Champions League seasons now over, it’s time for football fans to turn their attention to this summer’s World Cup.

EA Sports is doing its bit to get us in the mood by releasing its planned FIFA 18 World Cup update ahead of the tournament’s commencement on June 14.

The download includes all official 32 World Cup squads, kits and the 12 official stadiums where the games will take place. It’ll also include the FIFA World Cup tournament, FIFA World Cup Kick-off and Custom FIFA World Cup Tournaments modes.

The latter will be welcomed by gamers who’s home nation didn’t make it to the finals, as it’ll allow them to play as those nations.

Finally, the FIFA World Cup Ultimate Team will update player cards throughout the tournament and include 17 World Cup Icons.

We’ve already gone hands-on with the update following its release on May 29.

“The World Cup add-on for FIFA 18 is awesome,” writes Simon Miller. “That almost seems silly to say given it’s relatively obvious, but it’s only fair to underline that fact as directly as possible so anyone excited about this summer’s tournament can also get ready for a solid digital version as well. While it has the exact foundations you’d expect, said foundations do a very good job. Sometimes keeping things simple is the way to go.”

The FIFA World Cup 2018 update is available for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch from today. It is free to download, but it is absolutely massive. The official download size is averages at 5.6GB on the three major platforms and 1.3GB on Nintendo’s hybrid Switch console.

However, some gamers are reporting file sizes as big as 6.14GB, so it may take a while to download depending on the speed of your internet connection. EA says FIFA Mobile will get the update on June 6.

The release comes on the same week EA Sports ran a simulation of the tournament that saw France beating Germany on penalties in the final.
