'Four more years': Obama tweet is most popular ever

After securing victory in the 2012 US presidential election, Barack Obama has picked up an even bigger accolade: his victory tweet has become the most popular ever.

The tweet posted from Mr Obama's official twitter account moments after victory was declared read simply,  'four more years'. It was posted along with a picture of the President embracing the First Lady, Michelle Obama.

The tweet took its crown as most popular when it surpassed the previous record held by Justin Bieber who's tweet dedicated to the passing of a 6 year old girl who died of cancer racked up over 200,000 retweets.

As it currently stands Obama's tweet has over 500,000 retweets and 175,000 people have added it to their favourite tweets list.

Barack Obama took victory in the 2012 US presidential race after winning 303 electoral college votes, surpassing the 270 needed to win. Republican contender Mitt Romney picked up 206 votes, giving Obama victory by a wider margin than many expected. Florida's 29 electoral votes are yet to be allocated but regardless of who takes victory in that state, Obama will still take retain his place at the White House.
