Forget the P8, Huawei's reportedly working on a curved flagship

Huawei has only just rolled the Huawei P8 off the factory line, but the rumour mill is already churning out new details on the phone’s successor.

A new report claims Huawei is already testing the Huawei P9 in China, revealing details about the upcoming smartphone.

The rumours come courtesy of China-based news site Mobile Dad, suggesting the device is being developed under the codename ‘IP03’.

Given the P7 and P8 were produced under ‘IP01’ and ‘IP02’ codenames respectively, this suggests a future flagship is on the way.

It’s worth noting that Huawei is also rumoured to produce the next Google Nexus handset, so this could also be a first sign of that device.

According to the report, the Huawei P9 will be curved, although it’s not clear whether this refers to the device’s body, or the screen itself.

The leak also points to a 5.2-inch display, a 16-megapixel camera with optical image stabilisation, and Huawei’s rumoured Kirin 950 processor.

The Kirin 950 leaked back in March, purportedly set to arrive as this year’s flagship mobile chip from Huawei.

It’s expected to make use of ARM’s new Cortex-A72 processor designs, and will operate at a maximum clock speed of 2.4GHz.

Given that the P8 has yet to hit retailers, and the lack of official word from Huawei, these reports should be taken with a sizeable dose of scepticism.
