HTC has uploaded the manual for the forthcoming Vive Pre headset, outlining the requirements for one of the VR device’s most enticing features.
The Taiwanese manufacturer has outlined the play area specs for the room-scaling tech that sets the virtual boundaries players can move around within.
The manual explains (via VentureBeat) how users will have to clear the area of furniture (and pets) in order to create a minimum play area of 5 x 6.5-feet.
The computer feeding content to the Vive Pre should also be outside of the Play Area with HTC reminding gamers of the 16-feet cable length. On the flip side they’ll have to remain within reach of the terminal.

Beyond that, the base stations tracking player movement (of which you’ll need one on each side of the play area) will need to be a minimum of 16 feet apart to work effectively.
These simple devices are picked up by the controllers and headset, with information then conveyed back to the computer.
Vive Pre owners are also instructed to remove or cover large mirrors or reflective surfaces and cover up sources of direct sunlight for the best experience.
