Fitbit Flex launches in the UK as Nike Fuelband rival

The Fitbit Flex has launched in the UK, with the wrist worn fitness tracker landing as a direct rival to the likes of the Nike Fuelband.

Formally unveiled back at CES 2013 in January, the Fitbit Flex is a wireless wrist mounted activity monitor capable of tracking users’ steps, calories burned and sleep activity. With Fitbit Flex pre-orders kicking off in the UK today, the Jawbone Up competitor will set wannabe owners back a penny shy of £80.

“We recognise people lead different lifestyles and Flex now gives the best option for those that would rather wear a wristband than carry a clip,” Gareth Jones, Fitbit’s EMEA General Manager stated. “It allows them to get on with their busy lives while our new features such as real-time stat syncing  and vibrating notifications when you hit your goal, allow for continual motivation throughout the day.”

Fitbit Flex Features
Able to capture all manner of data metrics, the Fitbit Flex offers users a rounded insight into their daily performances, with steps taken, distance covered and calories burned further enhanced by an integrated sleep activity tracker and the new active minutes metric.

Speaking on the new active minutes data, which tells users how many moderate-intensity cardio minutes they have performed during the day, Jones stated: “Active minutes, our new stat, provides an additional way for users to motivate themselves, by measuring the level of intensity behind their activity. It’s a great way to reach the UK’s recommended goal of 30 active minutes per day and feel a huge sense of achievement in the process.”

Hosting the ability to wirelessly transfer performance results via Bluetooth 4.0 to user’s free to download iOS apps, the Fitbit Flex is also capable of communicating with NFC enable Android device, with a simple touch pairing of the two devices launching the Fitbit Android app.

Available in black and slate colour schemes with optional band attachments available separately, the Fitbit Flex, sports an integrated LED indicator to offer instant progress feedback while vibration notifications offer further indication of personal goals.

Fitbit Flex Release Date and Price
Whilst pre-orders for the device have kicked off it the UK today, May 9, a formal Fitbit Flex UK release date is not set to be held until later this month. As well as touching down via the company’s official website, those looking to snap up the Nike Fuelband rival will be to pick it up from the likes of Amazon, John Lewis and Apple stores.

Continuing the company’s theme of affordability, the Fitbit Flex price has been set at just £79.99.
