First Windows-branded phone pictured

The first images of a Windows-branded phone have leaked.

Last week an internal Microsoft document leaked, revealing that the company was set on ditching both the Nokia and the Windows Phone brand names.

Instead, future Microsoft smartphones will be given the plain old Windows branding.

Now we have what appear to be the first images of a Windows-branded smartphone, courtesy of a rather unexpected source.

UK manufacturer My Go might not be a household name even in its home country, but it’s just gained a measure of notoriety for posting a high resolution image of its forthcoming Windows smartphone.

As spotted by Neowin, over on a My Go microsite marked “CONFIDENTIAL” and “Internal Use Only,” a handset called the Windows GoFone is being featured. It looks like a fairly typical Windows 8.1 phone (other than the fact that it isn’t a Lumia) with an oh-so-fashionable 4.7-inch 720p display.

Of more interest though, is a zoomed-in view of the rear of the device, which reveals the Windows name and symbol. A banner at the top of the page also associates the phone with the Windows brand, the term Windows is featured heavily throughout the page.

There’s no indication of when the Windows GoFone might launch, so this doesn’t offer any clues as to when Microsoft plans to roll out its new branding effort. But the page does look pretty much complete, suggesting that the end of Nokia and Windows Phone isn’t far off at all.
