First Vaio smartphone could land in just two weeks

Vaio could be setting up to launch its first-ever smartphone in mere days, a new report reveals.

Blogofmobile (via PhoneArena) has reported that the computer firm will unveil the fledgling device on March 12.

Interestingly, that’s around one year after the company was spun off from its previous position as a Sony laptop brand.

Vaio was sold on to a company called Japan Industrial Partners, a firm that has since been embroiled in rumours that it will launch its own series of devices, smartphones included.

These devices have been widely tipped to carry the Vaio branding, which gels with this latest report.

What’s more, the article details benchmark results from a purported Vaio handset.

The device is listed as carrying a 64-bit Snapdragon 410 chip clocked at 1.2GHz, alongside 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage.

There’s also a 5-inch 720p display on board with a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and 5-megapixel front-facing camera handling photography.

The device will seemingly run off Android 5.0 Lollipop, which settles talk of what operating system Vaio will opt for.

While we can’t say for certain whether there’s any truth to these rumours, we certainly don’t have long to wait to find out.
