First official BlackBerry Priv pics posted

BlackBerry has provided the first official images of its BlackBerry Priv smartphone.

Company CEO John Chen announced the first Android-powered BlackBerry smartphone last Friday following numerous rumours and leaks. Now it's posted the first official images of the phone on its blog.

They offer a comprehensive glimpse at the BlackBerry Priv (short for 'privacy' and 'privilege', apparently) in profile, as well as the angled look posted above.

That latter view shows the Priv's distinctive slide-out Qwerty keyboard and dual-curved display, which is likely to be a 5.4-inch QHD number. It has something of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ about it.

Despite these initial releases, the BlackBerry Priv still hasn't actually had its full announcement yet. That will come some time in the fourth quarter of the year.

This is why we don't have official specs to go with these official images. Rumour has it the Priv is powered by a Snapdragon 808 CPU and 3GB of RAM, with an 18-megapixel camera around back.

We do know that the Priv will run on Android 5.1.1, which is a turn up for the books in itself. The idea is to provide full access to the Google Play Store whilst retaining the security of BlackBerry's own-made platforms. The blog post calls it a "no compromises" approach.
