Ahead of the game’s formal unveiling, the first Call of Duty 2014 screenshot has emerged, showing off a highly detailed character.

Said to have been shown off behind closed doors during last month’s Game Developers Conference, the first Call of Duty 2014 screenshot has emerged courtesy of gaming specialist IGN.

According to the latest leaks, the Call of Duty 2014 screenshot was used during a presentation dubbed ‘Quest for Quality: Maximising the Relationship Between Creative and Production’ and focusses on the intricate detail of one of the game’s characters.

The image, which was first shown by developer Sledgehammer Games, precedes the game’s full formal unveiling expected in the coming months. Call of Duty 2014 is expected to be one of the main draws of E3 2014 in June.

Although concrete details on the upcoming Call of Duty 2014 release are currently few and far between, Activision has already confirmed the game will mark the franchise first step into a three year product cycle, with Sledgehammer Games joining the rotation of Infinity Ward and Treyarch.

It is also known that Call of Duty 2014 will be the first title in the dominant FPS franchise to be built primarily with the next-gen Xbox One and PS4 in mind.

Despite last year’s Call of Duty: Ghosts having been made available on both Sony and Microsoft’s latest console offerings, Activision’s publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg recently confirmed this year’s title will see the franchise move to a dedicated next-gen development plan.

“Obviously in the console-transition year, anyone who developed a cross-generational game last year had to deal with the fact that the technology of the next-gen platforms was still coming into focus and changing quite a bit during the development process,” Hirshberg said.

He added: “Now that we have the next-gen hardware out in the marketplace and solid, that is out primary development.”
