Final Fantasy 9 stealth launches onto iOS and Android devices

Square Enix has released Final Fantasy IX for iOS and Android devices, complete with upgraded visuals and new gameplay features.

We already knew that Final Fantasy IX was coming to iOS, Android and PC this year, but nobody expected it to come out of nowhere.

Square Enix stealth launched the the acclaimed JRPG yesterday for iOS and Android devices, and you can download it now from iTunes or the Google Play Store.

The game will cost you £12.99, and is currently 20% off until February 21 as part of a special promotion.

Square Enix notes in the game’s description that its file size is “very large” and will weigh in at roughly 4GB on all devices.

To run the game you will need iOS 7.0 or newer, and it is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Android users will need a compatible device that supports Android 4.1.

This new version of Final Fantasy 9 includes improved visuals and a number of new gameplay features.

Players will have access to a “high speed mode” and the ability to disable random encounters, making exploration far easier.

Final Fantasy 9 first debuted in 2000 for the original Playstation. It was then re-released for the PS3, PSP and PS Vita via The Playstation Network in 2010.

It’s a fantastic RPG, featuring some of the franchise's’ best characters, storytelling and visual design.

The game is also coming to PC in 2016, but a release date beyond Steam’s “early 2016” window is yet to be confirmed.
