Final Fantasy 9 is coming to PC and smartphones this year

2000’s Final Fantasy IX is coming to PC and smartphones in 2016, Square Enix has announced.

The best Final Fantasy (fight me) is finally being released on PC and smartphones this year.

Square Enix has confirmed it will be coming to PC, iOS and Android devices in 2016 in Japan, but provided no details on a western release.

A new trailer (via Kotaku) showcasing the game’s improved graphics has been released, and you can check it out below.

Much like the PC release of Final Fantasy 7, it will include a “high speed” mode, and a variety of “game-boosting features,” that should make things easier for completionists.

“Now you can relive the adventures of Zidane and his crew in the palm of your hands!” Square Enix said in its announcement last week.

Square Enix also announced that Final Fantasy 9 has sold more than 5 million copies since its debut in 2000 for the original Playstation.

It was re-released for the PS3, PS Vita and PSP on the Playstation Store in 2010 as a PS1 Classic.

Specific details on supported mobile devices can be found here.

We have our fingers crossed for a PS4 release of Final Fantasy 9, as Final Fantasy 7 arrived on the platform earlier last month.

The Steam release will include support for achievements, cloud saves and mouse and keyboard functionality.
