Final Fantasy 7 Remake will have fully voiced characters

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake will feature fully-voiced characters, and may even have an open world.

Speaking to Dengeki Playstation (via Gematsu), game director Tetsuya Nomura and producer Yoshinori Kitase discussed some of the features they’ve been working on for the Final Fantasy 7 remake.

“Basically, it will be fully voiced,” Nomura explained. “We still haven’t decided the voices of the characters that weren’t in Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children.”

This suggests that voice actors from CG film Advent Children may reprise their roles in the upcoming remake.

When asked about the game’s setting, Nomura was hesitant to describe it as a traditional “open world” or “sandbox.”

“We can’t say anything yet, but we don’t plan on fussing about whether it’s a so-called open-world or sandbox. But since Nomura is more focused on the creation of the scenery, we want to express an environment character actions affect the scenery.”

It may be difficult for Square Enix to create a cohesive open world when they plan to release the Final Fantasy VII remake as a “multi-part series.”

The publisher is yet to expand on what this means, or how many parts the remake will consist of.

Fully voiced characters is hardly a new thing for Final Fantasy, so it makes perfect sense for the remake to include it.

Sony showed the very first gameplay footage for the game during their Playstation Experience Keynote earlier this month.

The remake’s battle system will be real-time and action based, as opposed to the turn-based mechanics of the 1997 original.
