EA Sports will remove former Sunderland winger Adam Johnson from FIFA 16 “as soon as possible”, the company has confirmed.
Johnson was sacked by Sunderland this week following his conviction of engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl. The former winger had previously admitted to one previous count of sexual activity and another count of grooming.
Following the court case, Johnson is currently awaiting sentencing, after the judge overseeing the case warned he could be spending a significant amount of time in prison.

EA has responded to the situation with a statement.
“Adam Johnson has been removed from the Active Rosters of both Sunderland and England in FIFA 16,” an EA Sports spokesperson told BBC Newsbeat.
“We’re working to remove him from other modes within the game as soon as possible.”
The 28-year-old has been removed from both the Sunderland and England teams in the game, but is still accessible in other areas at the time of writing.
