With just weeks to go until the game’s release, EA Sports has confirmed that the FIFA 14 cover is to be changed in the wake of cover star Gareth Bale’s recent transfer to Real Madrid.

With Gareth Bale having been announced over the summer as the UK FIFA 14 cover star alongside global presence Lionel Messi, EA confirmed last week that it would be sticking with the Welshman despite his much publicised move from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, Real star Bale this morning Tweeted: “New club... new @EASPORTSFIFA cover! #halamadrid.” The social post which was retweeted by the official EA Sports FIFA feed was accompanied by the new pack shot showing Bale in his Madrid garb.

The move means that the UK version of FIFA 14 will not feature a current Premier League player or team on the cover for the first time in a number of years.

Last week an official EA spokesperson stated: ““Gareth Bale remains the FIFA 14 UK cover star alongside Lionel Messi. In light of his recent transfer we are working closely with his management and we will have an update soon."

At his unveiling as the FIFA 14 cover star back in July, Bale said: “The players on the front cover since I was a kid have obviously been legends of the game.” He added: "It's a great honour for me and I'm very proud of it.”

Yesterday, September 10, saw the first FIFA 14 demo released with Xbox 360, PS3 and PC gamers all given a chance to wrap their gamepads around the upcoming football sim ahead of launch.

Available as a free download, the playable FIFA 14 demo features eight teams, letting gamers take to the field as Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Barcelona, AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, New Yorks Red Bulls, Boca Juniors and PSG.
