Fed up of drones? This one will tackle them for you

If you’re worried about drones invading your privacy, send one to take them down. Takes one to know one and all that.

The Rapere drone is your drone-hunting sidekick. It sits on its charging base, ready to deploy. When you spot a drone you think is up to no good, place it on the ground outside and press the Go button. It will take off and scan the sky using its 12 cameras. When it spots a ne’er-do-well, it will hover above it and drop a tangle line into its rotary workings. And hey presto, the drone will drop to the ground while the Rapere returns to base.

Its cameras detect motion so it can tell if a flying object is a drone or a bird.

It’s not quite as simple as ordering one online, however. Because of the nature of it, you’ll need to be qualified to buy one. The people behind it don’t spell out what that means on the website, or how they’ll stop people abusing it. Under the question ‘Is this legal?’ it says: “That depends on how you plan to use it, and where you live. The Rapere itself is legal.”

They’re also not sure when it will be available.

Pretty vague all round then, but it’s a cool idea. And let’s be honest, drones are a potential nightmare in our cities. The police had to remind people recently that it’s illegal to fly them near landmarks or within 50 metres of a building that you don’t own. You also can’t come within 150 metres of any congested area.
