DVF Made for Glass

Google has announced a new range of Google Glass headsets with rather less geeky and more fashion-friendly designs.

While the Google Glass project has generally impressed with its heads-up smart notification and life recording concepts, there’s no denying that its wearers look at best conspicuous. At worst they look downright ridiculous.

Evidently aware of this, Google has announced a partnership with American fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg. The DVF Made for Glass collection provides "chic eyewear designs" to the Google Glass range.

They’ll be the first commercially available Google Glass headsets to be designed by a team other than Google itself.

The DVF Made for Glass collection features five new frames and eight new shades. They’ll be available from June 23 from Google and luxury online shopping website Net-a-Porter.

These being luxury fashion items, not to mention advanced technology, the DVF range won’t come cheap. A set of DVF-designed Glass frames with prescription lenses will set you back $1,725, while a set of sun glasses will be $1,620.

Of course, like everything else Google Glass-related, it’s all US-only at present. Google Glass isn’t available here in the UK as yet, but rumour has it that wider availability for the smart glass project will be announced at Google I/O on June 25 and 26.

It’s possible that these funky new Google Glass designs could make their way over to the UK at launch, thus saving us from severe crimes against fashion. Here’s hoping.
