Bethesda has revealed that Doom and Rage developer, id software, is helping to improve the Fallout 4 gunplay.
id Software has been roped in to improve the gunplay and handling for Fallout 4, so you might notice quite a difference from Fallout 3.
In a video recorded at E3 2015, but not actually published until now, game director Todd Howard discusses the evolution of gunplay in the game.
“If you were to pick it up and play [Fallout 4], it does feel like a modern shooter,” said Howard. “I won’t say anything bad about Fallout 3, but we didn’t want to make any excuses for how the action felt in a role-playing game. We feel we can layer all of the role-playing and start systems on top of that.”
“So the guns feel great. We have aim down sights, you can play in first and third-person, and then we have the V.A.T.S system.”

Howard adds that id Software was called in to help from a very early stage in the development process to help build the shooting mechanics.
“Since id Sofrware is part of our company, the first thing we did was call them. [We said] ‘alright, we’re going to do this from scratch, give us some tips’.”
The Fallout 4 release date has been set for 10 November on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
Bethesda has confirmed that Fallout 4 will receive free updates on a regular basis, on top of what is no doubt a plethora of paid-for extra content. All of that will be available under the $30 Fallout 4 Season Pass.
id Software, meanwhile, is working on its own title – the new entry in the Doom series. It’s currently targeting a 2016 launch on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
