Facebook rolls out Live Video for all US iPhone users

Facebook has announced its Periscope-like Live Video streaming feature is now rolling out to all US iPhone users.

The feature, which sits within the main app and enables users to broadcast to friends and the wider world, was initially reserved for celebrity users, like The Rock, and verified pages.

The firm began testing with the main user base a month ago and it’s now ready for prime time.

On its Newsroom blog, Facebook writes: “To share live video, tap on Update Status and then select the Live Video icon. You can write a quick description and choose the audience that you want to share with before going live.

“During your broadcast, you’ll see the number of live viewers, the names of friends who are tuning in and a real-time stream of comments. When you end your broadcast, it will be saved on your Timeline like any other video, which you can then delete or keep for your friends to watch later.”

Just like with the celebs and public figures, your friends will be able to subscribe to your channel and be notified every time you go live.

The company said it plans to roll the feature out in more countries soon, while added that it planned to open the feature up to Android phones soon.

The feature, built into the main app, is a great answer to Twitter’s popular Periscope tool. How long before Twitter responds by adding Periscope to its flagship product?
