Facebook formalises selling process through For Sale Groups

Facebook has added new features to Facebook Groups that improve the way you can buy and sell through the social network.

Up to now, anyone wishing to sell goods through a Facebook For Sale Group hasn’t had to follow any set template for providing key information. Listings typically involve uploading an image of the item, with all information given over in a loose text description.

This made the process of actually searching for goods a bit of a lottery, and could make obtaining key information a painfully protracted back-and-forth process.

Now, members of a For Sale Group can list items in a more structured way. You can add a description of what you’re selling, add a price, and set up a pick-up or delivery location.

It’s also now possible for sellers to mark listings as Available or Sold, as well as to refer to a list of previously sold items.

Facebook is rolling out these new features globally over the coming months. They’ll be coming to iOS, Android, and of course the web.

The company has also revealed that it will continue bolstering the For Sale Group community by adding new features for buying and selling goods over the coming months.

Facebook clearly has designs on on taking on established online marketplace services such as eBay and Craigslist.
