Facebook at Work is nearly ready to launch – soz, LinkedIn

Always being told off for catching up with Facebook at work? That’s all about to change.

Facebook is about to launch a dedicated professional version of its social network very soon.

The new platform – dubbed Facebook at Work – will launch “in the coming months”, according to Reuters.

“The new service, geared towards workplace collaboration, is nearly identical to its ubiquitous social network,” reads the report.

Facebook at Work will retain many of Facebook’s core features, like a news feed, likes, and a messaging service.

I would say 95% of what we developed for Facebook is also adopted for Facebook at Work,” explains Julien Codorniou, Facebook’s director of global platform partnerships, speaking to Reuters.

It’s worth noting that Facebook at Work profiles will be distinct from existing Facebook profiles to maintain an air of professionalism.

Facebook has been beta-testing the platform since January, offering it to select companies on an invite-only basis.

However, all companies will be able to access Facebook at Work once the service launches in the near future.

There are currently plans to monetise the service by charging businesses “a few dollars per month per user” for premium offerings like analytics and customer support.

Professional social platforms like LinkedIn and Slack have seen real success, so it’s no surprise that Facebook wants to join in.
