Eye2TV can improve TV viewing for the colour blind

All the colours of the rainbow

For the colour blind, watching TV can be a chore. When it's hard to discern between colours, all the players in a football match can look like they're on the same team. This gadget promises to change all that.

It's called Eye2TV, and it enhances the colours on-screen, making for a much more pleasurable viewing experience. Just plug it into your TV’s HDMI port, and it’ll enhance reds and greens, making them easier to discern. You can also adjust the settings so that it suits both those with colour blindness or colour deficiency and those without. So you won't ruin the picture for anyone who's not colourblind - everyone can watch together.

It works with any TV, as long as it has an HDMI socket. And it’s compatible with any source, be it a set-top box, DVD player or games console.

Plug the Eye2TV into the HDMI port and the video source into the Eye2TV. Then plug a USB cable from the EYE2TV into a port on the TV to power it. And that's all there is to it.

It comes with a Bluetooth remote control, so you can tweak the settings without getting up from your seat. In future, you’ll be able to do so using an app on your smartphone or tablet.

The device is based on research from the University of East Anglia’s School of Computer Sciences. It’s seeking funding on Kickstarter. If successful, it will cost £50 and will be delivered in March next year.
