Whether you’re trying to spell it, or you’re suffering from it, diarrhea is a horrible experience – and Google knows this.
Google has revealed some of America’s top spelling mistakes, in honour of the USA’s national Spelling Bee finals. The search engine giant has mapped the top searches for “how to spell” in 2016 on a state-by-state basis, and we’re not surprised by any of the results.
The two worst offenders were “cancelled” and “desert”, both of which ranked top in four states. Next up were “pneumonia” and “gray”, each of which topped out in three states. Some of the other words Americans struggle with included: neighbor, pneumonia, diarrhea, cousin, sergeant, niece, courtesy, maintenance, schedule, guarantee, ornery, attitude, broccoli, vacuum, courtesy, tongue, appreciate, convenience, tomorrow, boutineer, definitely, beautiful, leprechaun, convenience, croissant, February, giraffe, banana, and possible.
Amusingly, two states actually had their own names as the top-ranking spelling mistake: Hawaii and Massachusetts. We’re no surprised.
