Exploride is a heads-up display for any car

Like the idea of a heads-up display, but don’t want to have to buy a new car? This gadget is for you.

It’s called Exploride, and it’s a heads-up display you can use in any car. Like a heads-up display that comes preinstalled, it gives you access to maps, music, calls and texts without taking your eyes off the road. It also features gesture controls, which is much safer than reaching over to press the screen.

Wisely, it hasn’t tried to do everything itself. The maps are powered by Google Maps, and you can stream music through Spotify and Pandora. But it does have its own app that lets you access files from the cloud, and a dash cam for recording anyone who tries to key your car.

It also offers diagnostics like engine health, fuel status and more, and doubles as a 4G hotspot so your passengers can get online using Wi-Fi.

The 6-inch display is transparent, so shouldn’t prove too distracting. Swipe up, down, left and right to control it, or you can speak and use voice controls. Inside is a quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and Bluetooth 4.0 LE. It also sports a 12v multi-USB adaptor and high output speakers.

You can nab one for $269 (£171). It’s about 40 per cent on its way to its $100,000 goal, and should ship in January.
