Even McDonald’s has built a virtual reality headset
Like rabbit offspring and Cheryl Cole’s surnames, new virtual reality headsets are arriving at an alarming rate.
McDonald’s is the latest entrant into the virtual reality fray, announcing the launch of a new VR headset.
The kit is (unsurprisingly) called ‘Happy Goggles’, and they’re only being peddled in Sweden – for now, anyway.
The Happy Goggles are actually built from a Happy Meal box. It’s just like Google Cardboard, but with added salt.
Here’s the launch video:
According to Jeff Jackett, marketing director at McDonald’s Sweden, virtual reality is “a really exciting opportunity to connect families in digital times,” speaking to AdWeek.
“Parents can learn more about their children’s knowledge and experience of the digital world,” continues Jackett. “And purposeful gaming can also be a great joint activity that helps families interact on equal terms.”

So how do you get one? First, you’ll need to be in Sweden. Then you’ll need to go to one of 14 participating restaurants on the weekends of either March 5 or March 12.
It’s worth noting that roughly 3,500 of the Happy Goggles will be made, so you might not be able to snag a pair.
