Ahead of the upcoming PS4 release date announcement, latest reports have suggested the European PS4 release date will be delayed until early 2014, months after the console's pre-Christmas arrival in the US and Asia.

With the PS4 release date schedule expected to see US and Asian gamers able to wrap their gamepads around the Xbox 720 rival before the end of the year, latest reports have suggested that due to distribution issues, a European PS4 release date will not be held until "early 2014."

Citing "development sources with working knowledge of both next generation consoles," gaming magazine Edge has claimed that "complexities involved in European distribution" will see the eagerly awaited PS4 release date miss UK shores, leaving frustrated gamers wanting for an additional few months.

"We’re told that PlayStation 4 will launch in Japan and the US by Christmas, with a Euro rollout following in early 2014, the delay attributed to the complexities involved in European distribution," the claimed insider sources have revealed.

Offering tantalising new details on the upcoming PS4 release date, the latest reports added: "Alongside the console, Sony will also introduce a new, improved iteration of its PlayStation Eye peripheral, which remains compatible with the PlayStation Move controller. Move will be available at launch, but it’s not clear yet whether it will be bundled with the hardware."

Whilst Sony has yet to comment on the latest reports of a delayed European PS4 release date, the tech giant yesterday teased its upcoming console refresh in a video invite to an imminent, New York based PlayStation event.

Set to be held on February 20, the upcoming PlayStation event, which has been confirmed alongside the teasing strap line "see the future," is expected to Sony formally unveil the PS3 follow-on with a PS4 release reportedly set to be confirmed.

The title implies that this is official news, rather than the speculative rumor it actually is...

Ye, I highly doubt PS4 will be delayed for Europe. This is all speculation, not fact. Times have changed, it is far easier to distribute worldwide now.

I think that I'm going to preorder under 3 conditions:

-If the price is less than $ 600 for the premium model.

- Some sort of support for the old format (mostly I’m worry about what will happens
about to the more than 100 items in my download list)

- Free region support. I don’t want import the system from Japan
or the US then I have to import every single game after that.

The PS4 might be delayed indefinitely, as hardware manufacturing alone is becoming an unprofitable
business. Last year the rating agency Moody’s cut its rating on Sony's
debt "to the lowest level above junk status and warned of possible further

I think this would be a bad business decision (as in not launching worldwide at least within the same month). Plus they are not stupid (although they do make some baffling moves.) I doubt this would happen again after the last time when Europe had the PS3 released quite a bit after the US and Japan. Furthermore, UK markets gravitate towards Microsoft's console more currently so they should attempt to gain ground here too.

all bullshit, as they have not announced jack shit yet, let alone the distribution problems it may suffer. it will be a worldwide roll out. dont forget they sold more units in asia and europe than usa, which will change this generation i am sure. due to xbox being the inferior machine, which it was this generation...

I really hope you're right, living here in the UK I've experienced the delayed release for both the PS3 and the Vita, so it wouldn't really surprise me if this articles sources are correct, unfortunately. On the plus side though, if this were to happen; it would mean more UK launch titles, less bugs with hardware/software (if there is any) and a new firmware at launch with potentially added/polished features.

if the ps4 is delayed in europe they will lose another customer
I'm not prepared to wait again like i did with the ps3

Yet again Sony will fail and allow the XBox 720 to jump ahead in Europe, how stupid are Sony to miss the christmas market in europe because of 'distribution' issues.
If it's true is pretty dumb marketing.
