Elon Musk defends Tesla reliability after “Recommended” pulled

When the influential Consumer Reports website revoked the Tesla Model S’s “Recommended” rating earlier this week over reliability fears, we guessed that CEO Elon Musk might have something to say about it.

Sure enough, a couple of days later, the charismatic entrepreneur has spoken up in defence of his fleet of e-cars.

CR had received feedback from 1,400 Tesla drivers on a number of problems with their 2013 Model S models, giving the car a “worse than average reliability rating“.

Some complained about the drive train, while others reported issues with the tablet-like touchscreen device in the centre console.

However, Musk says those problems have already been addressed on newer vehicles.

In a pair of tweets posted on Wednesday evening, Musk pointed out another metric from Consumer Reports, which states the vast majority of Tesla owners will buy from the firm again.

It’s clear Musk isn’t too concerned about losing the hallowed “Recommended” rating, given the overall customer satisfaction with the Tesla vehicles.

Given more of the problems occurring are covered by the company’s warranty, they’re unlikely to be costing Tesla drivers anything beyond the general inconvenience either.
