EE to test 300Mbps 4G connections this year

In a move that would mark it out as the world’s fastest mobile network, EE has confirmed that it will trial 300Mbps connection speeds later this year.

With the UK’s leading 4G network already offering speeds of up to 150Mbps second, EE has confirmed that its 300Mbps 4G trials will take place in a matter of weeks, with the plans to rollout services capable of those speeds in 2014.

“To further extend its mobile data leadership, in November EE will reveal more details on plans to trial the latest 4G speed technology, offering speeds up to 300Mbps in London this year, with wider rollout planned for 2014,” and official spokesperson for the company has stated.

They added: “The EE network is already the joint fastest network in the world, and this move will make the network the number one for speed.”

Although there are not currently any handsets on the market which would be able to utilise such services, EE has suggested that the first phones capable of such speeds will make it to market in the latter part of the first half 2014. The network has suggest this timeframe would fit with its rollout plans.

With no phones able to capitalise on 300Mbps 4G speeds, EE has revealed that both Huawei and Samsung are currently piecing together 4G dongles which will be used in the company’s upcoming tests.

To put the claimed 300Mbps speeds into context, EE has revealed that its new 4GEE Extra tariffs, which offer an average speed of 60Mbps, will allow users to download an album in just 10 seconds and a full feature film in roughly two minutes.
