EE Power Bar swaps to keep Glastonbury goers charged

EE has announced it will one again be bringing Power Bars to Glastonbury as part of an exclusive ‘technology partnership’ with the festival.

The UK’s mobile network market leader plans to accommodate ‘over 200,000 Power Bar swaps’ during the festival weekend, which runs from June 24 to 29.

The EE Power Bar, first launched at Glastonbury last year, is a rechargeable battery pack that can power up smartphones.

Once empty, they can be traded in to EE for fully charged units, meaning you should theoretically never run out of power.

“Our Power Bar phone charging initiative began at Glastonbury in 2014 and proved so popular that we launched it last month as a year-round loyalty scheme for all customers,” said Spencer McHugh, EE’s Brand Director.

He continued: “We received over a million requests in just four days, so to say there is huge demand for this simple charging solution is an understatement, and at festivals the need for a fully charged phone is even greater.”

If you want to make use of the swapping system at Glastonbury 2015, you’ll need to register for a special wristband by June 7.

This wristband entitles everyone to one swap per day, and is completely free for EE, Orange, and T-Mobile customers.

Non-EE customers can also join in, but they’ll be met with a £20 surcharge for the luxury.

The company will also be running its EE Recharge tent at the event, which will be open to everyone.

Signal looks set to be on point too, with EE bringing 4G network to the entire Worthy Farm Glastonbury site, which should help deal with the 1.5 million pictures estimated to be uploaded at the festival.

EE claims last year’s festival-goers downloaded around 2.5 terabytes of data, so providing sufficient network coverage to the event is no mean feat.
