EE introduces first 4G pay-as-you-go plans

EE has announced it is to introduce the UK’s first 4G pay-as-you-go smartphone plans, with a range of affordable 4G phones on offer.

Having brought the first 4G contracts to the UK late last year, EE has now decided to forge a path into PAYG 4G, confirming it will introduce the first 4G pay-as-you-go plans later this month.

Set to be introduced on October 30, the 4G EE PAYG deals will come with a variety of data options and bolt-on deals to meet customer’s varying text, call or data based needs.

We are launching the UK’s first 4G, pay-as-you-go handset plans,” Simeon Bird, EE’s Director of Propositions said in making the announcement. “We are offering a range of mobile data allowances, text and call limit options as well for the pay-as-you-go audience.”

With data bundles between 100MB and 10GB able to be added to the first 4G PAYG plans, EE has confirmed that these bolt-ons will cost between £3 and £30. While a 1GB 30 day data bundle will cost £10, jumping up to a 2GB allowance will set you back just £15.

As well as offering data bundles, EE has confirmed that the EE 4G PAYG plans will also offer text and call add-ons, with a 100 minute monthly allowance adding £3 to your bill. In an attempted to sweeten the deal, revealing that all early adopters will
benefit from a free 10GB data allowance which can be used within 90 days
of the 4G EE PAYG rollout.

On top of this, those picking up an EE PAYG SIM before January 31 2014
will be rewarded with 2014 free minutes, available at a rate of 168 per
month.

With the company now reporting more than a million contracted 4G users, EE has stated that consumer demand has caused it to offer PAYG deals.

“What we’ve seen is that a lot the pay-as-you go audience, people who are a lot more conscious about how they control their spend are also interested in 4G as well,” Bird stated. “We’ve made sure that we have created something that is designed for the pay-as-you-go audience.”

He added: “There is also the bonus that when customers take a 2GB plan on the data options, they will also have access to the double-speed 4G.”

With EE to offer its 4G PAYG deals alongside 15 handsets, the company has revealed that entry-level 4G phones, such as the Alcatel One Touch Idol S and Nokia Lumia 625, will help make the usually costly 4G services more affordable.
