EE plans to switch on its superfast EE 4G mobile broadband service in 27 more UK towns by June, extending its 4G EE coverage to over half the British population.
The 27 towns set to receive the 4G signal will take the total of connected locations to more than 65, putting the UK’s only 4G network provider ahead of its self-imposed schedule.
Stevenage, Huddersfield, Basingstoke, Milton Keynes, Blackpool and Oxford and are among the 27 towns set to be connected by June this year. With Maidstone, Leatherhead, Guildford and Sevenoaks also getting the green light, more than 55 per cent of the population will have access to the 4G network.
“Our business customers want a 4G network that covers the markets in which they operate, and that is exactly what we are building for them – and at a phenomenal rate,” said Olaf Swantee, CEO at EE. “We’re set to cover more than half the UK population by summer, staying ahead of the schedule that we set for ourselves at launch, and continuing to demonstrate the amazing value of 4G mobile to many organisations with different challenges and different needs.”
The superfast 4G mobile signal is approximately five times faster than the average 3G signal, allowing 4GEE customers to download large email attachments, stream live TV and movies, make video calls and surf the net on their smart phones and tablets with increased speed and ease when on the move.
Last month EE connected 9 additional UK towns to its 4G signal, bringing the current total of 4G enabled towns to 27 within the first 90 days since it launched.
The only UK network provider currently offering a 4G signal, EE is offering 4GEE contracts on an increasing number of compatible devices including the Apple iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3, BlackBerry Z10 and HTC One XL.
