EA to ditch E3 2016 booth in favour of gamer-friendly events

EA Play

Electronic Arts has announced it will not be hosting a booth at the biggest gaming show of the year, E3 2016.

Instead of hosting a large press area on the show floor, EA will open up its new games to the public in pre-E3 sessions under the name EA Play.

From June 12-14, EA will hold events at Club Nokia in LA, which is right next door to the LA convention centre where EA takes place. The publisher will also hold an event for its UK fans in London on June 12.

The events will kick off with a briefing that takes place at Club Nokia at 1pm on June 12.

"Our players are the driving force behind everything we do," EA said in a statement (via GameSpot).

The EA Play sessions will allow gamers to go hands-on with forthcoming titles and also witness competitive gaming sessions.

On the official site, the company says: “Experience hands-on game demos, live events, competition, special guest appearances, exclusive memorabilia and more.”

Tickets will be free, but will need to be reserved. Users can sign up for the event at the EA Play website. For those who can’t make it, the events will be live streamed.

As for its plans at the EA event itself, the company will still hold briefings with journalists during E3.
