EA Games to create its own “Assassin’s Creed-style” game with Jade Raymond

EA Games is about to create its own rival to the open-world adventure series, Assassin’s Creed.

It looks like there might be a new EA Games’ series in the future, from the studio headed by ex-Ubisoft producer Jade Raymond.

Raymond joined EA Games back in July to found Motive, a new Montreal-based studio for the publisher.

She was the co-creator of the Assassin’s Creed series back in the day, later becoming the head of Ubisoft Toronto. That history should put her in a fantastic position to create a new open-world adventure title for EA Games.

“We’ve
never really operated in the largest genre of gaming, and that’s the
action genre,” said EA CFO, Blake Jorgensen earlier this week, as
reported by Gamespot. “That’s the Assassin’s Creed-style games; more open world, more single-player versus multiplayer. It’s not been an area that we’ve operated in.”

“We recently hired Jade Raymond, who was behind the Assassin’s Creed franchise for Ubisoft and she will be building an action genre for us through a studio we’re building out in Montreal right now. So a lot of excitement around the action genre.”

It’s not like EA doesn’t have a wide range of titles available now or in the near future. For example, there’s Mirror’s Edge Catalyst coming in May 2016, with the story-heavy sci-fi game arriving at the end of next year – Mass Effect Andromeda.

Visceral Games is also creating a Star Wars title with ex-Naughty Dog story genius Amy Hennig.

BioWare also has another project up its sleeve with its new IP. From the very brief footage we saw back at E3 2014, it looks to be some kind of post-apocalyptic world.

We’re wondering whether Raymond’s new game will be a historical adventure or something entirely different.

Motive seems to still be in the early stages of genesis, so we could be in for quite a wait for EA’s answer to Assassin’s Creed.
