Duck Hunt port for Nintendo Wii U set for Christmas Day release

Nintendo has announced one of its most iconic games, Duck Hunt, will be reborn on the Nintendo Wii U this festive season.

The original version of the NES classic will be available to download from the Wii U’s Virtual Console on Christmas Day.

Wii U owners will be able to substitute that plastic orange and grey gun for the Wiimote in order to experience what Christmas would have might have been like for a gaming enthusiast during the dawn of the home console era.

As an endearing Arstechnica report points out, the rebirth will be the only way long-time enthusiasts will be able to enjoy the game without an NES and an old-style CRT television set. As the zapper gun doesn’t play nicely with modern HD flatscreens, Nintendo has modified this version of the game with an on-screen cross-hair monitoring the movement of the Wiimote.

So, if you feel showing your kids or young Titanfall-obsessed family members how it was done back in the day you’ll get your chance on the 25th.

Nintendo hasn’t confirmed the price yet, but it’s likely to be around £3. Happy hunting.
