There are times in life when you can’t help but feel awed by the genius of another person.
This is not one of those times.
A Florida woman has been arrested after she broadcasted a live video of herself driving while intoxicated.
Her drunk driving debut was watched by viewers around the world, including the police, on Twitter’s live-streaming Periscope video app.
The Lakeland Police Department, the local police force, took in a number of 911 calls about a drunk driver using Periscope to broadcast herself, which led to an official investigation.
During the video, driver Whitney Beall can be heard saying that she is “drunk”, “fucking drunk” and, ironically, that “drunk driving is not cool”.
Officers used the Periscope video to pinpoint landmarks in the area, and found Beall while still driving her vehicle – a 2015 Toyota Corolla with a flat left front tyre.
A report by the WTSP claims officers witnessed Beall hitting the curb, and that she smelled like alcohol.
The 23-year-old failed sobriety tests, refused a breathalyser, was arrested on the spot, charged with a DUI, and transferred to the Polk County Jail.

The LPD now hopes to receive further training with Periscope in hopes of preventing further crimes.
“It’s probably technology like anything else we’ll look at and probably have selected individuals within the police department will be trained to be able to use it,” said Gross.
