Sony has released a set of new gameplay videos for DriveClub, while also announcing a special PS4 bundle for the game.
The fresh DriveClub gameplay footage is apparently rendered in real-time, but are only small 16 second Instagram videos.
The clips are taken from an early demo of the game ahead of its release date later this year, showcasing DriveClub’s dynamic weather system.
We’ve been suitably impress with DriveClub’s graphics during our extensive hands-on session and these Instagram videos only serve to highlight the game’s potential, especially the leaps the dynamic weather has taken with the PS4.
“Spots of rain can become torrential downpours or transition into blizzards, quickly or slowly, and when the cloud clear up the tracks will dry out too”, said Alex Perkins, DriveClub Art Director. “Deafening thunder storms with flashes of fork lighting are what we’re aiming for. Our intention is to make this as immersive and exciting as we can.”
The weather in-game is also customisable. You won’t just be presented with fixed settings, but instead developer Evolution promises it will be “dynamic and exciting”. More information on how adjustable it will be won’t be announced until close to launch day though.
It’s not just about visuals though, as the weather will also dramatically affect gameplay. Handling and visibility in the vehicles will change as well.
“It’s all about the detail: the dampening surfaces, moisture absorption, changing material appearances, lighting in the sky, and so on,” added Perkins. “To be able to make a break-thru like this is what makes the new PlayStation 4 hardware so exciting.”
Sony also revealed that there would be a DriveClub PS4 bundle available in October for the game’s launch. It will include a physical copy of DriveClub, the 500GB Black PS4 and DualShock 4 controller.
In Europe it will cost €439.99, which equates to around £380 for UK consumers.
