Downtonisms is a Downton Abbey soundboard for iOS and Android

This has got to be one of the quirkiest new apps of the week. Called Downtonisms, it’s a Downton Abbey soundboard that plays choice quotes from the hit ITV show.

Choose from 12 characters, including Dowager Countess, Lady Edith, Robert, Earl of Grantham, and Sarah O’Brien.

In all, it has over 160 quotes you can play at the tap of the screen.

These include “Vulgarity is no substitute for wit” (Violet, Dowager Countess), “The business of life is the acquisition of memories” (Mr Carson), and “I should hate to be predictable” (Lady Mary).

If you think you’re up to it, you can even test your knowledge as to who said what with the quiz within the app.

And you can share your scores on social media.

“The nation’s love affair with Downton Abbey shows no sign of stopping, so we wanted to find a fun way for fans to interact with the show beyond the TV set in their living room,” Dominic Burns, from NBCUniversal (the parent company of the show’s producer), said in a statement.

The app costs 69p on both Android and iOS. You’ll need iOS 6.0 or later, or Android 4.0.3 or later.

The X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent, The Voice, and Doctor Who are just some of the TV shows to have their own companion apps. Downtonisms reminds us of Radio Alan: The Alan Partridge Player which featured quotes from Partridge’s radio show, and even had Alan rate your taste in music. Give it a whirl and let us know what you make of it.
