Dot is the world's smallest Bluetooth earbud

Like a concert in your ear

You can keep your massive Beats by Dre cans, thank you very much. This is a far more discreet option.

It's called Dot, and it's the world's smallest wireless Bluetooth earbud. It's so small it sits right in your ear. In fact, it's virtually unnoticeable, so you can pretend to listen to what someone's saying while blissing out to some tunes. (University lecturers, take note: if everyone in the lecture hall is nodding, you should be suspicious.)

But it's not just a headphone. It also doubles as a handsfree kit – just tap the button to answer a call and to hang up.

It weighs just 3.5g, which is about half of most rival Bluetooth earbuds.

Because it uses Bluetooth, it's compatible with any Bluetooth device, including iOS, Android and Windows smartphones, tablets, and even ageing old dumbphones.

The aluminium case doubles as a natty charger that you plug in via microUSB, and it's fully juiced in just 30 minutes. You'll get between six and nine hours of use from it once fully charged. Fancy a pair? You can buy the stereo pair with their own carry case.

With almost $320,000 crowdfunded so far, it's raised over 1,000 per cent of its original $30,000 goal. And it still has nine days to go. You can pick up the mono for the early bird price of $59 (£38). The usual retail price will be $99 (£65). It will ship in December.
