Dolby Atmos to bring that ‘in-the-stadium’ feel to BT Sport 4K

BT has announced wide-ranging plans to transform the BT TV service over the next few months, including the introduction of Dolby Atmos sound and a next-generation YouView TV service.

In a press release on Friday the firm said it’ll be the first UK broadcaster to incorporate the next-generation audio standard. It will roll it out to BT Sport 4K UHD packages from early 2017.

The new YouView service will also be downloaded to customers set-top boxes next year promising a ‘faster and slicker’ experience with image-rich on-demand options.

That experience, complete with a new on-screen guide, is also coming to a brand new BT TV app enabling the streaming of live and on-demand programming.

There are no firm dates for any releases yet, but it will certainly give TV customers something to think about when considering BT or Sky Q in 2017.

Delia Bushell, managing director of BT TV and BT Sport, said: “BT’s mission has always been to provide a high quality, premium TV service at prices that give unbeatable value to UK consumers. We will keep driving the pace of innovation in content, broadcasting and our customers’ experience.

“In 2017 we’re going to further shake up the market by releasing our new viewing experience across our TV guide and on demand, our new TV app and on our BT Sport channels, provided as a free upgrade for our customers.”
