Does the Amazon Kindle Oasis have hidden Bluetooth powers?

According to recently revealed evidence, the new Amazon Kindle Oasis could have a hidden ability that would open up its feature set considerably.

The recently unveiled Amazon Kindle Oasis is classy, bright, long-lasting, lefty-friendly, and rather expensive. It could also have Bluetooth, if a recent report is to be believed.

The Digital Reader has uncovered FCC paperwork that suggests the Oasis might have support for the local connection standard. This is a turn up for the books, as Amazon hasn’t made any mention of a such a feature in its press blurb.

It should be pointed out that the FCC filings in question don’t mention the exact Kindle or Amazon directly, but all signs point to the Amazon Kindle Oasis. In particular, it names the new eBook reader’s model number.

The paperwork makes mention of the fact that the mystery device was tested with both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and that this included running a Bluetooth earphone on the device. This would seem to confirm that the Kindle Oasis is set up for audio support.

All of which leaves the obvious question: why did Amazon disable the Bluetooth feature on its latest premium eBook reader? Also, will Amazon reinstate it at a later date through a software update?

It would certainly go some way to justifying that wince-inducing price tag.
