Denon Heos multi-room system announced as Sonos alternative

Denon has announced the Heos audio system, its alternative to the Sonos multi-room system.

The Denon Heos is a multi-room wireless system that gives you easy access to your favourite streaming services

There are three speakers in the Denon Heos line-up, giving you a rough alternative to the speakers of the Sonos line-up – you can choose between the Heos 7, the Heos 5 and Heos 3.

Each speaker comes in black and white/silver finishes.

The biggest of the lot, the Denon Heos 7, features quite the array of driver units. There’s a subwoofer, two full-range drivers, two tweeters and two passive radiators.

One step down, the Heos gets rid of the dedicated subwoofer driver, offering two full-range drivers and two tweeters, and a single passive radiator.

The baby of the bunch, the Denon Heos 3, has two full-range drivers.

Sources supported by Heos range include Spotify, Deezer, TuneIn radio and iTunes. They don’t need a ‘bridge’, but rather connect directly with your home broadband.

One of the big advantages over the Sonos system is that the Denon Heos speakers offer aux inputs, letting you plug in sources that don’t have access to the internet.

On the streaming side, you’ll control the system using apps for iOS and Android devices.

As well as the speakers, the Denon Heos range also offers a bridge, which acts as extender for devices that might be out of Wi-Fi range, and an Amp box that lets you connect your own speakers.

The Denon Heos range will sit at the top end of the streaming market, with the speakers expected to cost between £279 and £500 – the Heos 3, 5 and 7 will cost $300-600 in the US.
