Dell XPS 12

Dell has announced a trio of new Windows 8-equipped PCs, making all available for US pre-order ahead of the launch of Microsoft’s new operating system later this month.

First up is the Dell XPS 12, a two-in-one device that transforms from “fully-featured, full-powered” laptop to a 12-inch tablet in seconds: you simply flip the touchscreen around in its holder and close the laptop. The screen has a full HD resolution, and the base configuration has a third-gen Intel Core i5, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. Prices begin at $1,199.99 (approximately £750 at the time of writing).

Dell XPS 27

The second XPS device is the Dell XPS 27, an all-in-one desktop PC with a 27-inch 2560 x 1440 touchscreen. The base model is fairly high-specced: third-gen Intel Core i5, 6GB of RAM, a 1TB hard drive and the 64-bit edition of Windows 8. Prices started at $1,599.99 (around £1,000).

Dell Inspiron One 23

Finally there’s the Inspiron One 23, another all-in-one desktop. As you may have guessed from the name, this one has a 23-inch display, which sports a full HD resolution and full touch controls. There’s 4GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive, Intel Pentium G646 processor and 64-bit Windows 8 on board in the base configuration, which will cost $779.99 (around £490).

Dell has also updated its XPS 13 laptop, boosting the specs and switching up to the new Intel Ivy Bridge chipset, which it claims makes it up to two times faster than the old model. Prices begin at $999.99 (£620).

Dell says the new models are currently only available for pre-order in the US, but we can expect UK pricing and availability details to be revealed soon.
